Markham's early years (1794-1830) were characterized by the rigors of homesteading and the development of agricultural industries. The township's many rivers and streams soon supported water-powered saw, grist and woollen mills. Small hamlets such as German Mills, Almira, Buttonville, Cedar Grove and Unionville began to spring up at the mill sites. The community of Milliken Corners was one such hamlet, named after three early pioneers John, James and Norman Milliken. Milliken Mills High School was named to recognize the history of our local community.

Milliken Mills High School opened its doors for the first time in the Spring of 1989.

Staff and students enjoy a beautiful facility that is treated with respect by all members of our community and is well-maintained by the custodial staff. Since our beginning in 1988, the enrollment has remained around 1,600 students. Our attendance area stretches north from Steeles Avenue, east to Warden Avenue, south from the 14th Avenue, and west to McCowan Road.

In 1993, Milliken became the first High School in Canada to register its own domain name. Initially, Internet Email and newsgroup access was all that was available. Later, in May of 1997, Milliken received a dedicated Router connection to the Internet which increased our service potential. Milliken has been running online services every since! In 1999, Milliken subsequently received a major network upgrade. We are now connected to the Internet via a fibre optic connection with our internal switched network running at 100MB and our switched backbone running at over 1GB. Today, our school is equipped with over 250 Pentium (WinXP Pro) based workstations. We have continued to upgrade our Internet Services and are now using a Windows 2003 Server which is our main portal for our staff and students; hosting our new WebMail/POP3 server and Intranet/Website.
